Mugshot Invites
March 28th, 2007 by dlove
It never really occurred to me that there may be people out there reading who don’t actually have Mugshot accounts. Since one of the major things I do here is (with the help of some generous contributors) attempt to maintain relatively recent builds of mugshot for Ubuntu users, if you’re here reading and haven’t tried using Mugshot yet you should give it a shot. Just drop me a line either via email or in the comments and I’ll send you an invite!
Just A Few Theme Changes
March 22nd, 2007 by dlove
I’ve done a few changes to the theme:
The banner is now an image. And beveled.
Each post now has a seperator between it.
The legal language has changed slightly at the bottom. There is no effective change to the licensing. I am thinking of defaulting to a 3.0 license sometime soon - of course, all existing material would still be covered by the 2.5 license.

Why Did My Clisp Get Updated?
March 19th, 2007 by dlove
If you haven’t noticed yet, there are a few new packages in the repositories. These are completely unrelated to any of the mugshot stuff, so feel free to ignore. For those who are interested…
The clisp package in the repository is identical to the Ubuntu edgy version with one exception - it is built with fastcgi support.
I’ve built cl-emb as a package. This nifty library allows you to embed lisp code in html (think PHP, or eRuby).
One thing I have noticed is that once Apache is started, it can take a while for the “fastcgi effect” to kick in reducing page load times. I think I’ve narrowed this down to two things…
(clc:clc-require :cl-emb) seems to generate significant initial slow down loading / compiling all the libraries. Once this gets done (I do it before the fastcgi accept loop), things seem to pick up a bit.
cl-emb seems to take a bit to cache the embedded lisp files. This could simply be the way in which I’m using them (thinking of reworking this a bit).
With that said, once apache and the clisp process have been up and running for some time, response times are great. Hopefully soon, I’ll have something to show for it.
Normally I Don’t Post These Sorts of Things…

Mugshot 1.1.37
March 1st, 2007 by dlove
This release sees the addition of libpcre3-dev as a build dependency. For anyone wondering what versions are available for which distributions / architectures, here’s a little chart:
UPDATE:
Thanks again to Keywan and Michael, we have new packages for edgy powerpc and both feisty i386 and powerpc. For anyone wondering, even though Ubuntu has dropped official support on the desktop for powerpc / feisty, as long as people are willing to continue building packages, I’m more than happy to host them. The updated distribution / architecture snapshot is below:
-> dists
-> dapper
* 1.1.32 (src i386)
* 1.1.37 (src)
-> edgy
* 1.1.37 (src amd64 i386 powerpc)
-> feisty
* 1.1.37 (src i386 powerpc)
A Shout Out to Tilted
February 27th, 2007 by dlove
I realized that it’s been quite a while since I’ve commented on my web hosting provider. They rock. When it’s three A.M. and you are over 600 miles away in a different time zone and their support fixes your problem - wow, that’s impressive. If you don’t believe me, just ask 37signals.

Mugshot on Feisty
February 18th, 2007 by dlove
Since there’s been some interest expressed in building mugshot on feisty, I’ve added feisty as a dist in the repository. The apt lines for feisty users are:
deb http://www.nighton.net/ feisty main
deb-src http://www.nighton.net/ feisty main
Note: there are no feisty binary packages in the repository as of yet. Any intrepid feisty users who want to try and build the package can take a look at these instructions for building mugshot.
UPDATE:
Thanks again to Michael, there are now feisty i386 packages available.

April 1st, 2007 at 11:06 amThat’s odd - I haven’t been able to replicate the behavior. Just a few quick questions:
Has the repository worked for you in the past?
You should be using the following line in sources.list:
deb http://www.nighton.net/ edgy main. Is that the repository you are using?What tool are you using to access the repository? (synaptic, apt-get, aptitude, etc.)
Could you try again? It might have been some sort of momentary burb in my webhosting.
Has anyone else out there reading run into the same problem? Hopefully we can get this tracked down quickly and fixed for you.
